Cumberland Ice Arena

500 8th Ave, Cumberland, WI 54829

History

In the 1960’s, a Twin Cities man named Don Clark moved to Cumberland, WI after co-founding and running the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association. Youth hockey continued in the community under various names until 1979 when Cumberland Youth Hockey Association (CYHA) was officially incorporated.

With persistence, hard work, and a leap of faith, the current Cumberland Ice Arena was built in 2001. This was possible through significant fundraising and support from association members as well as community partners.

The Arena was paid in full in 2017 and is now owned completely by the non-profit organization, CYHA. The CYHA continues to maintain the rink with 100% volunteer-effort, donations, and fundraising.

Today, the Cumberland Ice Arena is home to Cumberland Islanders Hockey, and it hosts a variety of community events, groups, and other associations throughout the year.

Our rink currently has a sand bottom, but we hope to change this soon!  Ice-making begins in October and ice comes out in March.

Future Goals and Improvements

  • Replacing our arena’s sand floor with concrete, opening the building up to many other uses in the community during the off-season
  • Improving accessibility
  • Updating our 60+ year-old Zamboni
  • Installing permanent spectator seating and heating in the arena
